Health, as inputs

Chase the inputs.The outputs follow.

Most health apps report what your body did. Landmark tracks what you did, like steps, Zone 2, protein and sleep, against the cadence you set, and says what is left today, this week and this month.

Days that compound.

A representative day. The trail climbs to the same figure the head states; each card reports against its own window.

The idea

An input is something you do.An output is something your body does.

The distinction is the whole product. One of these you can act on this afternoon; the other you can only wait for.

Outputs: what most apps put on the list

Increase VO₂ max

Improve HRV

Lower resting heart rate

Lagging indicators. They record the cumulative effect of months of behavior, which makes them useful for judging a strategy and useless as a task. Nothing here is a thing you can go and do.

Inputs: what Landmark tracks

45 more minutes of Zone 2

150 g of protein

Asleep before 22:30

Behaviors, each on the cadence you choose: per day, per week, per month. Landmark reads them from Apple Health and reports what is left against the window you set.

Progress arrives on its own as Apple Health receives it. What you open the app for is the remainder.

One drawing at three grains. A card’s band reads backwards from the moment you open it, over the last six hours, the last seven days, the last thirty, so every bar on it has been lived.

  • Your cadence, never oursZone 2 can be 30 minutes a day, 150 a week, or 600 a month. Landmark measures against the window you chose and does not impose one because it is commonly recommended.
  • Targets that are not all the same shapeSome targets are floors: at least 10,000 steps. Some are ceilings: at or under 2,200 calories. Some are deadlines: asleep before 22:30. Each is measured as what it is.
  • Behind is drawn, never wordedThe one pace mark on the screen is a tick across the trail at an even pace for the day. Behind is the lit line stopping short of it. No card carries a verdict, and there are no streaks, no badges and no encouragement.
  • A finished target leaves the listA habit you have met drops out of its horizon and stands under Completed at the foot, with what it banked. The top of the screen stays the part of the day you still have to spend.

Apple Health

Whatever already writes to Apple Health counts.

Landmark reads from Apple Health rather than from any one device or app. A watch, a scale, a food log, your phone’s own step count: if it writes to Health, it moves your progress. Keep the gear you already use.

  • Reads, never writesLandmark asks only for permission to read the metrics you grant it. It does not write anything back into Apple Health.
  • Stays on your iPhoneThere is no Landmark account and no Landmark server. Your health data is read on the device, stored on the device, and analyzed on the device.
  • You pick what it can seePermission is per metric, granted in Apple Health, and revocable there at any time.
